Lucy and Smokey, two silver-shaded British Shorthair cats with blue eyes, snuggled close together

Two cats.One mission.

The City Soft Carrier — a soft cat backpack with a large mesh front, so your cat sees the world instead of fearing it. Designed with Lucy and Smokey.

01The story

In the beginning, there were two.

For twenty years, our home belonged to one cat. When she left us, we were certain: that was it. No new cats — the heart needs rest.

Then a friend told us about a litter. We only meant to have a quick look. There sat Lucy and Smokey — and “just looking” turned into “forever”.

The first trips to the vet taught us something: the usual carriers made them visibly uneasy. And what the market offered was either carelessly built or uncomfortable — for the cats and for us. So we started designing ourselves: a home for the road where a cat feels safe. One you actually want to carry.

And the name? Lucy leads — the “us” is Smokey, the two of us, and everyone still to come.

Behind the two of them: Hendrik and Sebastian — two people who like building things properly.

For them, we build what didn’t exist yet.

02The City Soft Carrier

Soft for the cat. Sturdy for everyday.

Our first product: the City Soft Carrier — a soft, shape-stable cat backpack with a large mesh front, built for everyday life between home and out and about.

Product draft — early development stage, not a production photo

01

Large mesh front

Cats that can see what’s happening panic less. The large mesh front and side mesh give your cat the overview — and you a calmer trip to the vet.

02

Breathing, not sweating

Fresh air from three sides keeps your cat relaxed even when it’s warm. Fine mesh that won’t catch paws or claws.

03

Soft, yet shape-stable

Softly padded where your cat lies — and sturdy enough that nothing collapses. Take out the base insert and the mat goes in the wash.

04

Carried with padding

Padded back and shoulder straps spread the weight comfortably — so even the longer trip to the vet or across the city stays easy.

Early design

Honest stays honest: this is an early design. We test and document the material, the measurements and every safety statement on the sample before we promise them — what we can’t prove, we don’t claim.

03Three colorways

One carrier, three characters.

Design studies from our development — same construction, three expressions. We’ll start with one colorway; which one, we’ll reveal soon.

A profile that finds its way back

Optionally add a cat profile. If the carrier is found, it returns to you.

05How it’s made

Five steps. No shortcuts.

Before the first carrier reaches you, it passes through a chain in which every link is documented.

  1. Blueprint: pattern layout of the City Soft Carrier — front, sides, base, straps and zippers

    Step 01

    Cutting

Every panel is cut individually — the front with its mesh window, sides, base and straps. The start of every carrier.

  2. Blueprint: three views of the City Soft Carrier (front, side, back) with measurements

    Step 02

    The soft build

The panels are assembled into the soft, shape-stable shell: padded where the cat needs it, sturdy where it gives the form.

  3. Blueprint: construction detail of the zipper and seams on the City Soft Carrier

    Step 03

    The seam that holds

Zippers and seams are set — reinforced where the handle and straps attach. Checked before it moves on.

  4. Blueprint: cat in the City Soft Carrier, ice-blue arrows showing the airflow through the mesh

    Step 04

    The breathing test

Mesh areas and airflow are tested on the sample — with an eye on the one sitting inside.

  5. Blueprint: finished City Soft Carrier with ice-blue check marks on zippers, buckles and mesh

    Step 05

    Final inspection

Every closure, every buckle, every zipper — checked by hand before it may travel to you.

Before you sign up

Honest answers.

Is a backpack even good for cats?

For many cats, yes — if size, ventilation and slow habituation are right. That’s why we build generous space, a large mesh front for good ventilation, and include a habituation guide with every order. And some cats simply don’t like backpacks — we say that honestly, too.

Which cats is the carrier made for?

The target is a cat that can sit, stand and turn around inside (outer 34 × 40 × 36 cm). Whether bigger cats fit comfortably is something we test on the sample — we only promise what we’ve measured.

How safe is the carrier really?

A soft, shape-stable shell, padded straps and tested zippers — the details we settle with the first prototype. Every safety statement is tested and documented on the sample before sale; until then we claim nothing.

What will the carrier cost?

Our target corridor is the premium segment (orientation: €59–69). We’ll only name the final price once it’s fixed — including for early birds.

When does it start?

Sample and load testing first, then Kickstarter — target window 2026. Waitlist members hear about every step first.
